Gravity Strainer model BSW Filterteknik’s BSW Gravity Strainers are self cleaning systems that work under atmospheric conditions. They are most commonly used in the pulp and paper industries to reduce the fibre content, to remove felt hairs, fibre bundles, to separate long fibres and organic solids from surface and ground waters and process debris from recycled plant waters.   Typical applications are the mill’s spray water supply, purification of sealing water from vacuum pumps and polishing of water from flocculation plants. The filter is also used for purification of raw water.   Function The water is fed in tangentially between the outer and inner jackets of the filter vessel. The water runs up and over the edge of the internal vessel and down onto the filter cloth. Unwanted solids/fibres are blocked by the filter cloth and clean water runs through the filter cloth and exits at the bottom of the strainer vessel. Cleaning is achieved by spray cleaning the filter cloth in a novel way, bottom-up cleaning. Two spray bars positioned below the filter cloth rotate in line with the unique collection chambers located directly above the filter cloth. The collection chambers catch the fibres/solids lifted by the spray water and feed them down towards the drain. The filter is suitable for water with fibre contents up to approximately 600 mg/l. (ppm). Smaller units are used for up to 1000 ppm. The control panel for power supply and for adjusting the spray pipe speed is designed for remote control on/off.   Gravity Strainer model BSW is available in six sizes. Capacity range: 25 to 600 m3/h Filter fineness: 0.08 to 0.25 mm (80 to 250 micron) Connection dimensions: DN100 to DN400 Filter motor: 0.25 – 0.37 kW, depending on filter size Material: Stainless steel EN1.4301 or EN1.4404 and EN1.4436.   No bearings or seals positioned below the drive unit. Screen frames in two or four sections for easy handling. No problems with settling of fibres in inlet chamber due to tangential inlet connection.
